Terry Benzel, the director of networking and cybersecurity at USC Viterbi's Information Sciences Institute, has been appointed to the National Science Foundation's Directorate for Computer, Information Science and Engineering Advisory Committee (CISE AC).

Among the main responsibilities of the CISE AC and its members are providing independent advice on complex science and technical issues and identifying situations requiring policy attention.

Members of the CISE AC are experts in their respective fields and were chosen to represent diverse sets of knowledge and promote progress in computer science, information science and engineering research and education.

An internationally recognized expert in computer security and experimental cyber science, Benzel’s appointment solidifies ISI’s commitment to participating in dialogues and discussion about issues of national importance to the scientific community.

“It is a true honor to be selected to serve the research community and the country,” said Benzel.  “The NSF plays a fundamental role in contributing to our understanding of crucial issues in society, including the role of computing in cybersecurity, infrastructure, networking and more. It is a privilege to contribute my knowledge and experience on these important matters.”
